Heanor

In East Midlands, Heanor is in Derbyshire's Amber Valley district. With Heanor covering 1,500 acres (610 ha) and containing 3,058 inhabitants, the parish then covered 7,000 acres (2,800 ha) and was in the union of Basford and the hundred of Morleston and Litchurch.

After the Heanor Hall estate break-up by nearby Shipley Hall's Miller Mundy family, Heanor Market Place was developed in the 1890s. The trading activity focus hitherto had been Tag Hill and the Market Place site had been part of Heanor Hall Park. To provide services in the town, the parish of Heanor formed a board in about 1850.

Into County Council electoral divisions that are single-member, Heanor Central and Greater Heanor, Heanor falls. Now awaiting development, the Grammar School of Heanor, which was to the market place's east, was part of the College of Derby latterly. Heanor Town Football Club - Known as The Lions, is the football team.

To become part of Northern Foods Group, famous for the production of Christmas puddings, Heanor Gate Industrial Park's Matthew Walker factory in 1992 was sold. Two infant (Corfield Church of England and Marlpool), primary schools (Coppice, Howitt Community and Loscoe Church of England), junior schools (Mundy Church of England Voluntary Controlled and Marlpool Junior) and secondary schools (Heanor CC and Heanor Gate Science College) are schools that Heanor has.

Forming with the Loscoe village, the town council-administered and civil parish area of Loscoe and Heanor, which of 17,251 had a population in the 2011 census, it lies north-east of Derby by (13 km) 8 miles. Though 30% of the area is within a green belt, Heanor and Loscoe civil parish contains no saved areas, and there is one nature reserve and four wildlife sites, all of significance. Heanor and Loscoe civil parish had 7,512 dwellings, 7,221 households and a population of 17,251 in the census.
